Virtual Ride for Major Taylor Project
November 7 - 14, 2020
This Virtual Ride for Major Taylor Peer to Peer Fundraising event is Cascade's biggest annual fundraiser for the Major Taylor Project. The Major Taylor Project is a year-round, youth leadership cycling program focused on introducing young adults from underserved communities to the recreation of cycling and creating an inclusive culture of bicycling that will continue to inspire future generations. Historically, the Major Taylor Project has served 17 schools in the Puget Sound region; 10 schools in Seattle, six schools in Tacoma, and one school in Puyallup. We are raising funds to form smaller groups of MTP clubs in Seattle and Tacoma that are COVID-19 compliant and resilient.
About Major Taylor: Marshall “Major” Taylor was a Black athlete and cycling legend who was one of the greatest bicyclists of his era, setting numerous world records and winning a World Championship--all while battling racism throughout his career from the late 1800s to early 1900s. He was an international superstar whose superhuman talents were as well-known in his era as LeBron James or Serena Williams are today. We are asking folks who participate to ride 75 miles over the course of a week in honor of Major Taylor's 75-mile one day race in Indianapolis, in which he pushed himself and battled extreme adversity but won in remarkable fashion.
Join this incredible event and not only will you get on your bike during this fall weather, but you will also support a great cause! We are asking each participant to raise or donate $200 minimum for this week-long event. We know you can raise more so don't stop at the minimum.
